Maine based performance rally team Last Ditch Racing is readying for their home event, the Maine Forest Rally, July 30-31 in Rumford Maine. Known as both a rough rally with both fast and flowing and technical sections, the event has been among the most popular rounds of the SCCA ProRally Championship series and is often heavily subscribed.

The team is no stranger to the event, the 1999 edition being driver/owner John Cassidy's first ever competitive event. "I can't say enough good things about the event. The roads are awesome and it's one of the few events close enough for our fans and family to attend." Historically one of the most popular rounds of the US Championship series, relatively few Maine residents know of it's existence. "I hope we see more Mainers out on the stages this year to experience this awesome event!"

LDR will be highlighted on the popular Maine PBS show, "Made in Maine." Made in Maine informs viewers about the breadth and variety of the business world in Maine. The Emmy Award-winning program is now in its 16th season and has enjoyed many years as one of Maine PBS’ most popular locally produced shows. Made in Maine is shot on location and presented in a magazine format.

Cassidy and Co-Driver Dave Getchell of Camden, Maine are confident, having recently placed fifth in the Rallye Baie Des Chaleurs, a Canadian Championship event in Quebec. Said Cassidy, "The car is solid, and we've been slowly developing it as we gain more experience. We've seen our speed increasing this season and we're steadily building towards a pace that will find us towards the top of the field."

Although improvements that increase speed are always welcome, the team is currently focusing on crew safety. "We have made a conscious decision to increase our safety level within the car," says Cassidy. To that end, the team will be utilizing HANS devices, Schroth HANS specific harnesses and a new Sparco Circuit seat with integral side head restraints for Getchell. "Dave and I are in full agreement that enhancing safety should be our top priority. A natural by-product is an increased sense of confidence while in the car."

The team is currently third in Open class and 9th overall in the Canadian Rally Championship. After the Maine Forest Rally, the team's next event will be the fourth round of the Canadian Rally Championship, the Rallye Defi. Ste-Agathe/Duhamel in Quebec in early September.
